All about me

I know everyone has to have a page like this and I guess that I shouldn't be the exception to the rule.  So here is the page all about me.

I guess I could describe myself, but it would be much easier to show you a picture:

Me and Sam

This was taken in October 1986 in a park in Cardiff, Wales (UK).  The little guy is my son Sam who is thousands of miles and six time zones away from me.

I was married, I am now divorced.

I play the tenor sax, listen to a wide variety of music, gaze at the stars and fly radio controlled model aircraft:  I hold a British Model Flying Association (BMFA) certificate 'B' which allows me to teach and fly at public displays.

I am a graduate of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth:  my degree title is BSc. Microelectronics and Computing.

The schools I attended were West Mon. Grammar School and Pontypool College (The College of Knowledge!), both of which are in Pontypool, South Wales (UK).   Interestingly West Mon. Grammar school is actually in East Mon. (Monmouthshire):   the story I heard was that there were two locations where they planned to build the school... one in the west of the county and one in the East.. so they built it in the East and named it West as a compromise!  Didn't make sense to me at the time, still doesn't make sense to me now!  But who am I to question the goings on of local governments?

This is the only link that I can find that even mentions "Pontypool College" and this doesn't seem to have a picture and the preferred name is now "Pontypool Centre".

I was hoping to find a picture of my old school since we used to call it "Coldidtz" because if it's pointed towers.  It looked a very forbidding place when you were a kid!  Struck terror into even the strongest heart... definitely a school after the "old school".  Whatever, I enjoyed my time there... loads of stories, which if I ever get the chance I will write somewhere on this web.

I moved to Canada in December 1997 and since then, like a good Canadian, I have learned to say "ay" at the end of most sentences (although that is not completely natural yet!) and I have started fishing.. with some success...  To say I had never fished before is strictly not true, since as a kid I used to drown the odd worm in the local river (The Afon Llewydd) but since I never actually caught anything, does that count as fishing?

Well I think that's the bare essentials, if you want to know more please feel free to email me, or leave a message in my guest book.  And if there is anyone out there reading this from any of my old schools or South Wales (particularly Pontypool or Pontypridd) then please drop me a line as I would love to get stories from "the old country"!

I work for a company here in Winnipeg as an IT Consultant.  For those of you that don't know what one of those is... I write business applications, mostly in Visual basic and SQL Server but also in a variety of other languages such as Delphi and Java.

If you want to contact me, my email address is [email protected].   If you have ICQ then I am there too:  my number is 8406184.
